Salaries of
Salespeople Across
the Globe

How is a sales team set up?

The Assembly Line sales team structure is a popular option among small and mid-sized companies and SaaS startups. This structure ensures a low-stress environment as it breaks down the sales process into individual tasks and every person is assigned a specific task.

Sales Development Team

Sales Development Team

Comprising sales development representatives (SDRs), this team is at the front end of an organization’s sales team. Using prospect research, SDRs set up sales sequences that include a series of emails, LinkedIn activities, cold calls or texts, to engage with prospects and book a meeting with them. Once a meeting has been booked, these leads are handed over to the Account Executive Team.

Account Executive Team

Account Executive Team

The account executives (AEs) work with a singular goal of closing the deal. AEs do one more round of qualification to ensure they have a need to buy the product or service, identify the pain points of these leads and accordingly initiate steps to close the sale.

Role of a Sales Development Representative (SDR)

Irrespective of whether SDRs are Inbound or Outbound, their goal is to book meetings with the prospects and hand them over to the AEs.

Inbound SDRs qualify the leads provided by the marketing team, book a meeting with qualified leads and then hand them over to the AEs.

Outbound SDR or Business Development Representatives (BDRs) go online to find prospects looking for the product or service you’re selling. They make a prospect list, reach out to them via cold emails/cold calls/cold LinkedIn outreach to book a meeting.

Role of an Account
Executive (AE)

AEs further qualify the leads brought in by SDRs by adopting lead qualification methodologies such as BANT and MEDDIC and will vet the prospects during the discovery call. Next steps include scheduling the demo to understand the prospects’ needs and confirming intent to buy. After the demo, AEs handle objections, follow up with prospects, and negotiate until the deal is closed.

Role of a Sales Manager

Sales Managers lead the sales team of an organization. They take care of hiring and training team members, coming up with a strategic sales plan, setting quotas and KPIs for SDRs and AEs, evaluating the team’s performance and periodically making necessary adjustments to boost sales.
